Ammonium alginate

Ammonium alginate

  • Film-forming property: The solution can form a flexible and breathable film after drying, suitable for food packaging and medical materials.
  • Emulsifying and dispersing property: Effectively reduces interfacial tension, enabling oil-water two phases to form a stable emulsification system.
  • Biocompatibility: Naturally derived, biodegradable, and friendly to humans and the environment. PH adaptability: Stable in the pH range of 4–10, prone to precipitation under acidic conditions.
  • Description

1. Product Introduction:

Ammonium alginate is a light yellow to brown amorphous powder or granule with excellent hydrophilicity, thickening property, and gelling property. As a hydrophilic colloid, it is easily soluble in water to form a viscous solution, featuring low ash content due to its high-purity organic properties.

Ammonium alginate can rapidly undergo ion exchange upon contact with calcium ions to form a gel with thermal irreversibility. Gels formed by high G-type alginate have high hardness but are brittle; in contrast, gels formed by high M-type alginate have good flexibility but low hardness. Adjusting the ratio of the two types can produce gels with different strengths.

2.Applications:

1> Sealing coating for bottle caps of canned products.

2> Non-flame retardant; suitable for coating food packaging paper, facilitating the incineration of waste paper.

3> Rubber concentrate and chewing gum base.

4> Enables immiscible two phases (e.g., oil and water) to mix with each other and form a uniform dispersion or emulsion. Mainly used in:

Canned foods containing cream or other fats (e.g., green beans, sweet corn)

 Processed cheese production

Flavored yogurt and its products undergoing heat treatment after fermentation

 Cold drinks
